The words hold true to what my husband experienced during his mother's last 2 weeks at the Elizabeth Bruyere Hospital.

I was inspired by some poems that I had come across by unknown authors and created my own adoptation so that I could
read it at my mother-in-laws funeral service on behalf of my husband

This poem - words that could not be spoken from a loving son.

Joy Ann Leach
Nov 25, 1938 - Oct 2, 2006

I little knew that evening,
God was going to call your name,
In life I loved you dearly,
In death that doesn't change.

In tears I saw you sinking.
I watched you fade away.
My heart was almost broken,
You fought so hard to stay.

But when I saw you sleeping
so peaceful, free from pain,
I couldn't wish you back with me,
to suffer that again.

I know God seen you getting tired.
And a cure was not to be,
And I know he wrapped his arms around you and whispered,
"Joy, Come to Me".

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest
With tearful eyes I watched her
My head upon her chest

Keep your arms around her Lord,
And give her special care.
Make up for all that she has suffered
and all that seemed unfair.

If roses grow in Heaven Lord
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in her loving arms
and tell her they're from me.

Tell her I love and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.

She left me beautiful memories,
Her love will be my guide,
And though I cannot see her,
I know she's at my side.

It broke my heart to lose her,
But I know she did not go alone.
For part of me went with her
The day You called her home.

My family chain seems broken,
It will never feel the same,
But as You call us one by one,
The chain will link again.

October 2, 2006 - My mother-in-law Joy Ann Leach (nee Berry) passed away peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyère Health Centre at 7:30 p.m. after a courageous thirteen year battle with cancer. Dear daughter of the late Charles Edward Berry and Mary Christine Berry (nee Nicholson). Wife of late William Edward Woodruff and late Percy Leach. Companion and best friend of William Weatherup. Cherished Mother of Edward (Pennylynn) and Robert. Proud and loving Nanny of Adam, Amanda, Sharilyn, Tyler and Brianna. Sister of Earl (Lois) Berry of Pembroke and the late Bud Berry. Sister-in-law of Marjorie Berry. Joy was a retired employee of Sears Canada and very much involved in the Legion. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances and will be remembered for her generosity, friendships, spirit, and razor-sharp wit. A memorial for Friends was at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road on Friday October 6 from 10 am until service time in the Chapel at 12 noon. A Reception followed. Her ashes were buried with her first husband at Pinecrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we had asked for donations in Joy's memory to the Canadian Cancer Foundation.
My tribute to a beautiful woman, mother, grandmother and dearest friend.

October 5th, 2008 - Family and Friends walk the 5KM for Breast Cancer. Through the generousity of friends, neighbours
and Sue and Jack Prior, Over $4000 was raised for the foundation.
